ABOUT Albuquerque
Southwestern flair and style have never been as evident as they are in Albuquerque, NM. A city that reflects its rich Native American and Spanish heritage, Albuquerque denotes the best in culture diversity. The ethnicities of original and current inhabitants alike are represented in the city’s architecture, art centers, and cuisine.
The first thing you notice when visiting this historic city is its devotion to its heritage. Cultural centers and museums offer insight into the traditions of yesteryear, while ritual Indian dances and active Pueblo communities demonstrate the importance of carrying the memory of that tradition into present day life. Age-old Anasazi cliff dwellings of some of the region’s earliest inhabitants can be viewed from below by taking a day-long guided tour to the Bandalier National Park. Petroglyphs of unknown meanings and origins hold the attention of many visitors at the Petroglyph National Monument as they hike along the West Mesa of Albuquerque.
Ride anytime of the year on the world’s longest tramway on the Sandia Mountains, which provides a magnificent view of Sandia Peak and the city below. Old Town is a definite don’t-miss; the very heartbeat of Albuquerque which began as a military outpost and trade center, and where many of the buildings founded in 1706 still stand. Shopping here will bring troves of turquoise, woven crafts, sterling silver, and other Southwest crafts.
